Intimacy

Most days, we feel rushed, like we’re supposed to be doing something.
Anything.
Like every minute needs to be accounted for, crammed with meaningful activity. Even on a hike—that’s Pablo in the picture.
The 2-hour drive to the trailhead was filled with music to pass time.
The 45-minute hike up was interspersed with staged photos and bits of conversation.
Not saying it’s a bad thing.
It was fun.
Once we got to the end of the trail, we were silenced by the blue of the glacial lake and the mountains hidden in fog.
But only momentarily.
We took photos at different angles around the lake, the perfect backdrop crammed behind us.
It wasn't until we slowed down that we were actually struck by it all.
The serenity and transparency of the turquoise lake.
The deep, green mountains as fog wrapped around their peaks.
So still and yet so alive.
We looked away to stare up again at the scene before us. Each view a bite to savor.
Most days, we feel rushed because we want to experience the next thing.
When we rush through it all, the doing and cramming feels like it’s what we need in life.
But real intimacy can't be rushed.
Real intimacy seems to only show up when we slow down.
When we allow ourselves to just be.
It's there if we choose to see it.
