Why I Bought A Leica
3min read
Greetings reader, hope you’ve been well.
As the title mentions, I purchased my very first Leica camera.
I remember when I first started photography,
I stumbled upon the brand and thinking it was would be impossible to get my hands on a Leica.
Fast forward to eleven years since I first picked up a camera,
I finally got my own.
The model is a Q2.
It is a digital point a shoot camera, unable to swap out lenses.
I was drawn to the simplicity of the camera itself.
It has minimal buttons, takes amazing photos and amazing video recording capabilities.
And I wanted to challenge myself to have one focal length, 28mm.
I purchased the camera like new, came with the original box and papers.
Originally, this camera costs around W7,200,000 (~ USD 6,000) in Korea,
but got mine at W5,700,000 (~ USD 4,800).
I know, you might be looking at those prices and saying that I am out of my mind
(I might be, but not too sure yet).
Even though this camera purchase left a huge dent on my wallet, I see it as an investment.
An investment in my craft, something that will elevate the way I interact with my subjects when photographing them.
I wanted a camera that would separate business (my current Canon EOS R) and pleasure.
A camera that would make we want to pick it up everyday and shoot with it.
A camera that got me excited, like the very first time you purchase something you’ve been saving up for so long,
but in this case, that would be everyday for me,
every time I picked up this camera.
I won’t bore you with all the camera specs, there are more entertaining videos to watch online about the camera.
But I hope this brings motivation to whomever may be reading this.
Even though it may seem as just another worldly possession,
what this camera symbolizes is something bigger than just a piece of equipment.
As mentioned earlier, it’s been eleven years since I first picked up a camera.
For me, this camera represents a journey.
The journey that has gotten me to this point in my professional career.
The countless millions or even billions of photos I’ve taken so far.
The amount of hours I’ve spend staring into Lightroom and Photoshop,
creating visuals that hopefully inspire the viewer.
And to be honest, I am just scratching the surface of my career.
I hope to work with brands in the future that I love, that have the same vision as myself:
To create meaningful stories through photography.
Thank you.
